Kansas City, MO, June 23rd, 2023: Weinberger Fine Art is pleased to present the first solo exhibition of works by Kansas City based artist Lily Mueller in Viajas de Mis Sueños, opening on Friday, June 23rd, from 5 to 8 pm.

Viajes de Mis Sueños translates to “Trips of my Dreams” which references Mueller’s impactful travels, more specifically how these travels have influenced her perception as she moves through the world. She’s named each piece after one of these destinations, rooting each one in an associated memory of the details, colors, textures, and patterns. By exploring each of these locations, her creativity has been ignited and is evident through the exploration of these ideas in her work.

For Mueller, color is the language of her work. She makes quilts and paintings inspired by music, psychedelia and architecture with a heavy influence by art nouveau band posters from the late 1960's, mid century modern design patterns, and the geometry of buildings. She utilizes these design concepts to create work that feels balanced yet makes a bold and colorful statement.

Her work feels timeless and somehow effortless while simultaneously catapulting you into a very specific, yet intangible moment. Utilizing traditional quilting techniques paired with her own quilting language she creates a visual playground for the viewer, with each piece consisting of hand-dyed fabrics and refined textures that, when paired, result in masterful color palettes and stunning designs.

Mueller explores the processes of quilting and drawing while integrating them with the aforementioned concepts of psychedelia, color, architecture and mid century modern design. Much of her inspiration comes from performing and listening to music alongside memories of her childhood and Nicaraguan heritage. She has been largely influenced by her fathers career as an architect, his interest in 60's psychedelic light shows, and her mothers love for textiles and fashion. She's exhibited at notable galleries including Jackson Junge Gallery in Chicago, Charlotte Street Foundation, and Troost Gardens in Kansas City. Mueller received her BFA at the Kansas City Art Institute
