Beyond the Horizon: Works by Larassa Kabel & Clare Doveton

Join us Friday, January 11th from 5-8 for the opening of Beyond the Horizon featuring the works of Larassa Kabel and Clare Doveton.

Beyond the Horizon explores the contrast between the richness of the Midwestern landscape and the melancholy of unbridled terrain. Between glowing sunrises and flickering fields of grain there too resides isolation, disorientation, and fear. With oils and graphite Clare Doveton and Larassa Kabel simultaneously draw viewers into the beauty of the natural world while pushing them away from the romantic.

Clare Doveton’s large-scale skyscapes are a response to moving from congested coastal environments to the tranquil rural landscape of Lawrence, Kansas. Doveton’s lucid, dream-like oil paintings capture skies, landscapes, and the complexity of each open sunrise.

Larassa Kabel’s photorealistic drawings address issues of loss, fear, gender and feminism. Her work is about compassion, from experiencing the worst moments of life to recognizing one another’s humanity regardless of gender, shape, or life choices.

The duration of the exhibit is open to the public from January 11th - February 25th, Tuesday through Friday 10am-6pm and on Saturdays 12pm-5pm.
